On May 13, 2025 the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition officially launched Pathways to Software Engineering, a pilot program designed to provide free coding education and financial stipends to historically marginalized youth in Maine. The event took place at the Roux Institute Amphitheater in Portland, drawing participation from local tech employers, nonprofit partners, and community leaders.
Developed in partnership with Resilient Coders and IntWork Recruiting, and supported by the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), the program aimed to build a more equitable and diverse talent pipeline for the state’s growing tech sector. Selected candidates participated in intensive training in software engineering, workplace readiness, and professional development.
The launch event served as both an introduction to the cohort and a call to action for industry partners to engage, hire, and support emerging talent from underrepresented communities.
